Personal Development and Community project
At Cramlington Village Primary School, Personal Development is woven through all that we do. Through our relationships; every interaction; across the curriculum; in every lesson; every event; every assembly - it is not an added extra.
Our vision
Empowering everyone to achieve.
Our aims
Our fundamental aim is that after being at our school, children are prepared for the wider world so that they can have a strong sense of purpose and belonging. We believe that it is essential that our children understand the world, engage in the culture they live in and understand the cultures of others. Our Personal Development Curriculum offer ensures that the children understand their place in the world, have the knowledge and understanding they need to make informed choices and to be a positive influence in the communities that they belong to. The children will look at the wider world with the confidence and knowledge that they matter and can make a difference.
Today’s children and young people are growing up in an increasingly complex world and living their lives seamlessly on and offline. Whilst this presents many positive opportunities, this also includes challenges and risks. As a result, we are determined that we develop learners to have a well-rounded set of British Values that enable them to know how to keep themselves safe and healthy, preparing them for life in the modern world in a diverse and ever changing community, aspiring for equity for all. We have a cast iron conviction to develop the behaviours and habits that children need to be successful learners, succeeding in the world by ensuring that they are ready, respectful and safe. Our aim is to develop skills and attributes such as resilience, self-esteem, risk-management, team-working and critical thinking so that our children can manage their academic, personal and social lives in a positive way.
We are proud to support all children to develop social awareness; strength of character; acceptance of others; and academic confidence. We are committed to providing a purposeful and ambitious curriculum that develops a love of learning, fully prepares learners for the next steps in their school career and the wider world, as lifelong learners. Broadening our children’s horizons and empowering them to believe that they are capable of and should aspire to achieve great things drives our curriculum. We have a sharp focus on subject specific knowledge, understanding, skills and vocabulary, as set out in the National Curriculum, so that all children can flourish and reach their full potential academically, physically and socially.
Our Village Volunteers programme enriches life at Cramlington Village Primary School. Our sequential, well-planned events support our aim to ensure children leave us as well-rounded, tolerant, respectful individuals. Children have an age-appropriate understanding of their place in society and their role in contributing to a positive community in which people can thrive.

How can we make CVPS, Cramlington and Northumberland a better place for all who live and visit here? |
What cultures do people in our school and wider community belong to? How can we celebrate diversity in our school and wider community? How can we develop and show understanding and mutual respect and tolerance? |
What is a volunteer and how does volunteering make you feel good about yourself? What can we do to give back to our community through volunteering? How can we develop relationships with others (intergenerational etc) in our community through volunteering? |
How can we protect our natural world? How can we look after our planet by reducing waste and reusing materials? |
How can we follow our interests? How can we gain the knowledge and skills necessary to be successful in our next steps? How can we link our learning to future opportunities? |
